” Until Death Do Us Part: An Examination of Marriage and Divorce Records of the 1800’s” presented by Tom Neel.
Tom will cover changes in marriage and divorce laws with examples of marriage applications, affidavits(or consents); bonds, returns and banns, as well as alternate sources for marriages such as church records,newspapers, pension records and Family Bibles. Testimony is the key in divorce proceedings, which can include instances of willful absence, slander, and bastardy.
Tom Neel is Director of the Ohio Genealogical Society where he has been employed since 1984. he is active in the Ashland County Chapter and the Huron County Chapter of OGS. He has a degree in History from Ohio Wesleyan University and received his MLIS ( Masters in Library and Information Science) from Kent State University. He resides in New London, Ohio.
